About ERICA MATSON
For nearly 20 years, I’ve developed and led creative teams to produce compelling video content for major global media brands. My experience spans every level of production—from producing and directing to executive leadership—enabling me to craft content that engages and grows audiences.
I began as an NBC Page and rose through NBC News as an Associate Producer, working on live broadcasts, investigative shows, and breaking news specials. In 2014, I joined VICE Digital, where my team earned a GLAAD Award for our coverage of Danica Roem. I went on to direct two episodes of Klepper for Comedy Central and later helped the Wall Street Journal win its first-ever Emmy in 2021 for a science and tech series I developed and directed.
I returned to VICE as Supervising Producer of North American Video, eventually becoming Executive Producer overseeing VICE’s digital verticals (VICE, Munchies, Noisey, R29). In 2023, our team won VICE Digital’s first Emmy for Outstanding Feature Story in Spanish.
Most recently, I led social video at The Athletic under The New York Times and joined WHEN, a new venture using legal strategies and public advocacy to hold powerful corporations accountable.
I’VE LIVED in new York for almost 2 decades, the last decade has been in the back apartment of an old Italian woman’s property in Williamsburg (her name is Blanche and she loves to make me late night espressos). I try and take advantage of the many wonderful and weird actives all over the city but my most consistent pastimes are softball, karaoke and mahjong. And yes, my cat Winona will melt your heart with her floppy ears.
